News For the Week of February 4, 2015

I'm still glad that we haven't had anything but some snow flurries. One day closer to warmer weather. I finally broke in my new fire pit I built back in warm weather and burnt a few boxes in it while the snow was flying. I haven't burnt any wood in it yet, but I plan to soon. Although it is a fire pit I don't want to sit out there in this kind of weather but will wait until it warms up just a little bit.

We attended the Homecoming at Bradleyville School last Friday night when Bradleyville played four games with Hurley. The gym was full of fans for both teams. The JV girls, Varsity girls and Varsity boys all came away with wins. The JV boys played hard but finally lost by only three points. We enjoyed seeing the girls in their formal dresses, all colors and styles. They all looked very pretty. The Homecoming Queen this year was Shekinah Clemans, escorted by Dean Clark.

Another piece of news I missed the past few weeks is that Chris Sprague, our music teacher and band director at Bradleyville School, won the John East “Spirit of Orpheus”Award from the directors of the SCMMEA district. The SCMMEA stands for South Central Missouri Music Educators Association. The district honor groups are sponsored by this organization. At the morning meeting of the day of District Honor Band, a band director is chosen to receive the John East “Spirit of Orpheus” award, which is given the evening of the concert. Congratulations to Mrs. Sprague on a well deserved award. She does an amazing job directing the band. The band kids also do an amazing job and they all look like they enjoy it so much. If you haven't heard them you need to attend a concert at school or one of the ballgames when the Pep Band is performing.

Upcoming ballgames will be the girls and boys both at Everton on Friday night, February 6. On Monday night, February 9, both the boys and girls will play Niangua at home. Both of these games will start at 5:30 according to the schedule but please check with the school because the times can change. The girls will also play on Thursday night, February 12 at Norwood.

Birthdays for the coming week include: February 5: Hester McBratney; February 7: Richard Braden, Alan Dorsey; February 9: Cathy Dalton, Sam Norwine; February 10: Angel Hartzell, Ed Hunsaker; February 11: Russell Burkhart, Tom Todd.
