Since autumn has officially arrived on
the calendar I guess all the leaves that are falling are official
also. Garrett looks out the window and says “Look, it's raining
leaves,” and that is really what it looks like out in my front yard
where a big elm tree stands. Although fall is not my favorite season,
I have been enjoying the beginning of fall and the slightly cooler
temperatures. The grandchildren like to go outside and swing and play
and the cooler weather is much more enjoyable. Bob has been hauling
sawdust and dumped a large pile of it in the yard near the swings so
Garrett can do his “excabating” with his toy bulldozers,
backhoes, and excavators. He loves all things mechanical.
I got to talk to Cindy Frye a little
while last week and she said they are still looking for a place to
live around Bradleyville. They would like for their daughter Rose to
still be able to go to school here. They plan to repair the part of
the house that burned but don't know when they will be able to start.
Cindy said she and Eric appreciated everyone's prayers for them.
Cindy said nothing ever looked so good that day as when she looked up
and saw Tom Todd walking towards her. Please keep this family in your
prayers.
Bo and Judy Bonner had a wonderful day
with friends recently. They gathered together at Bo and Judy's place
and cooked sorghum and had a great time cooking sorghum and cooking
in dutch ovens. Judy said she was looking forward to next year and
doing it again.
New Mansion is gearing up to have a
centennial celebration which will take place on the afternoon of
Saturday, October 25. There will be lots of special singing and lots
of good food. If anybody has any old pictures of New Mansion Church
or the members or pastors they would be willing to share, please get
in touch with some of the New Mansion people. I will have more
information in the coming weeks.
I forgot to mention last week that the
week before on September 18 the Jr. High boys won first place in the
Taneyville Boys Tournament and then last week on September 25 the Jr.
High girls won first place in the Bradleyville Tournament. Both Jr.
High teams are having a fantastic year. The girls will be in a
tournament October 6-10 at Thornfield.
The volleyball team will have a game on
Thursday, October 2 at Fordland and then will play their next two
