News For the Week of January 29, 2014

Didn't get this sent in to the papers but here it is.


If anyone has been wondering or missing what winter felt like for the past few years, we are getting a good reminder this year. Actually, this winter is probably mild compared to some in the past. I remember one winter when we had about 6 inches of snow on the ground for a month. I have heard my dad tell of when he was a young man and Beaver Creek was frozen solid and they could drive a wagon and team of horses over it. That had to have been at least seventy to eighty years ago. So it could be worse or better, however you look at it. I am not a fan of cold weather and I am looking forward to hot temperatures.


We watched the finals in the Mark Twain Conference tournament which was held at Niangua last Saturday. They played good ballgames and both the girls and the boys came away with third place trophies.


Thieves are at work in the area again. Bob went to one of his cedar patches where he hadn't worked in a week or so and thieves had been at work, cutting apart his winch truck. They had cut the boom off with a cutting torch, cut out one of the rear ends and had started on the motor. They had built a fire to keep warm while they worked. They got what they got and Bob brought the rest of the carcass home and took it to sell for junk.
